Notable Matters
  • Represented the award creditor in the landmark case of A8 v B8 [2023] ADGMCFI 0015 (26 June 2023), in which the ADGM Courts recognised and enforced an ICC arbitral award in circumstances where the award debtor held no assets in the ADGM and where the onshore Abu Dhabi Courts had found the ADGM Courts to have exclusive jurisdiction in relation to enforcement.
  • Represented the appellants in the case of Oran and Oaken v Oved [2025] DIFC CA 004 (28 October 2025), where the DIFC Court of Appeal discharged an anti-suit injunction granted by the DIFC Court of First Instance (CFI) and found that the CFI had no jurisdiction to grant the injunction in circumstances where the seat of arbitration was not the DIFC.
  • Represented the claimant in the case of Oswin v Otila and Ondray [2025] DIFC CFI 032 (16 September 2025), in which the DIFC Courts continued an injunction in relation to a hazardous waste facility plant in Abu Dhabi.
  • Represented a large international contractor in ARB-007-2023, where the DIFC Courts recognised and enforced a DIFC-LCIA arbitral award valued at more than AED 100 million.
  • Represented the award creditor in DIFC recognition and enforcement proceedings (DIFC Claim No. ARB-016-2023) in relation to two DIFC-LCIA arbitration awards collectively valued at over AED 70 million.

About

Nathan specialises in complex commercial litigation and arbitration. He has experience advising and representing clients before the DIFC and ADGM Courts and in institutional arbitrations under the rules of the ICC, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA, LCIA, ADIAC, and ADCCAC.

 

Nathan is a South African qualified lawyer, having been admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in February 2015. Since admission, he has experience practising in both South Africa and the UAE. He is also a DIAC-registered arbitrator and has sat as both arbitrator and tribunal secretary in DIAC and ICC proceedings.

 

Prior to joining Afridi & Angell in 2026, Nathan was a senior associate at a boutique law firm in the UAE and advised clients on UAE and DIFC law in relation to both contentious and non-contentious matters.
