Afridi & Angell successfully led a lawyer’s group consisting of real estate partners from major law firms with offices in the UAE in negotiating with the Dubai government to establish the legal opinion precedent to be used with respect to the newly introduced jointly owned property law’s mandatory regulatory filing requirements of Jointly Owned Property Declarations. This was a first in Dubai – setting the market standard.
In addition to advising clients on day to day real estate matters, the head of our real estate team, Shahram Safai, is involved in the development of the legal framework for real estate and is a lecturer on a number of the Government’s professional development courses which focus on current legal developments in real estate.

Advised an investor on a long term lease of a property in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. We advised the investor on the lease documents and handled negotiations with the lessor, in accordance with applicable Saudi real estate and Shari’a laws.
Advised a major developer on the AED 5 billion Umm Al Quwain waterfront project consisting of hotels, villas and apartments.
Advised a major developer on the purchase of a plot, valued at AED 650 million, for G+40 residential tower in a free zone in Dubai. In addition to dealing with the government on all aspects of the plot purchase, we also drafted and advised and on the construction contract, and dealings with contractor and nominated subcontractors.
Acted on behalf of a major UAE Master Developer in the drafting and negotiation of the development, sale and management agreements for the promotion of a new AED 315 million residential development that forms part of an established master community in Dubai.
Acted on behalf of a major UAE Master Developer in the sale of plot in one of Dubai’s established master communities for AED 77 million to a GCC developer for the development of a mall.
Acted on behalf of a major UAE Master Developer in the drafting, negotiation and completion of a master Sale and Purchase agreement for the sale and transfer of over 600 properties extending over 1.9 billion Sq Ff at a price of AED 2.22 billion. Sold properties included a hotel, residential and commercial units and villas.
Acted for the developer in drafting the constitutional Owners Association (Jointly Owned Property) and sale documentation for a bespoke, high end, and high value residential development (with an estimated end development value of AED 500 million) of 27 penthouse and duplex residences.
Advised the lenders in connection with mortgages over real property in Abu Dhabi, including with respect to projects involving usufruct and Musataha rights.
Advised an Abu Dhabi-based company regarding the establishment of an AED 300 million manufacturing plant in Abu Dhabi including advice regarding real estate issues.
Advised and provided transactional and documentation support to developer in the sale of an AED 1.66 billion prestigious 5-star hotel and affiliated facilities and properties.
Provided strata law advice and drafted documentation for an AED 3.2 billion iconic 80 storey, 328 meter mixed use tower development in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The development comprises a variety of different residential, retail, commercial and office sections along with a sky lobby. This has led to the formation of bodies corporate in relation to a number of different levels of strata, making it one of the most complex strata developments in Dubai. Acted for a large, multinational contractor in a contractual dispute with a UAE company commissioning an AED 1.5 billion landmark sports complex.
